When visiting Guanajuato, you must try its delicious and unique cuisine. However, avoid eating meals that are sold by street vendors and be careful with seasonings and spices. Also, the state of Guanajuato has a drinking water supply, but we recommend drinking purified bottled water, especially in rural areas or villages outside the cities.

As for safety, Guanajuato is a peaceful state and is safe to walk in during the day and at night. However, you should consider some tips to have a pleasant trip without any mishaps:
  • Don't wear flashy, valuable jewelry
  • Know where your wallet is at all times
  • Keep your documents and valuables in the hotel safe
  • Bring enough money for daily expenses and a credit card
  • Carry official ID or a photocopy of the same with you
  • Don’t walk unaccompanied in isolated places
  • Don't drive on isolated roads at night and if possible, avoid traveling alone
  • Park in well-lit places and, if possible, in public parking lots
  • Do not buy from street vendors
  • Request a receipt or invoice as proof of any purchase
The Federal Consumer Office (PROFECO) promotes and protects consumer rights. They can assist you with problems related to retail sales and services from suppliers such as hotels, travel agencies, restaurants, transportation, etc
